The first written record of Lednice dates back to 1222. Its Latin name was IZGROUBI and its German EISGRUB. To begin with it was a tiny village which became a small town in 1582. Lednice is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the Czech Republic. It gained this prime status thanks to the chateau and neighbouring chateau park. Lednice is part of the Lednice-Valtice grounds, which was declared a listed country reservation area in 1992. This cultural country area was entered in the UNESCO world and cultural heritage list in 1996. A series of interesting events take place here every year.
